Bosh refutes claim he quit on team

Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh disagrees with Toronto Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo that he quit on his team.

Bosh said he plays the game as hard as he possibly can every time he takes the court and has a lot of pride in his work.

The forward also cleared up some controversial comments that made some think he didn’t like the city of Toronto.

Colangelo was clearly bitter that Bosh decided to leave Toronto to play with Dwayne Wade and LeBron James in Miami. ( Read More…)

Raptors sign Kleiza

The Toronto Raptors have signed forward Linus Kleiza to a multi-year contract. Terms have not been released.

Kleiza spent last season playing overseas after being a member of the Denver Nuggets the previous four years.

Kleiza didn’t get the type of contract offer he wanted from the Nuggets, so he went with the much larger deal over in Europe.

The Nuggets had the right to match the Raptors’ offer sheet for Kleiza but declined to do so. ( Read More…)

Raptors willing to sign, trade Bosh

The Toronto Raptors are now willing to do a sign-and-trade of forward Chris Bosh with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

There’s only one problem: Bosh made it clear that he really doesn’t want to play in Cleveland.

Despite the potential presence of LeBron James, Cleveland was not on his list of sign-and-trade cities. ( Read More…)

Turkoglu to the Kings?

Hedo Turkoglu started his NBA career with the Sacramento Kings. Ten years later, the former first-round draft pick is eyeing a return to northern California.

The disgruntled Raptors forward has already soured on Toronto, and the feeling appears mutual. He has publicly stated that he’d like to be traded, and the franchise seems inclined to do so if it can shed the four years left on his $53 million contract, which he signed just last season.

Raptors interested in Williams

The Cleveland Cavaliers are looking to trade Mo Williams and the Toronto Raptors are more than willing to listen.

A possible trade between the two teams could mean a swap of point guards in Williams and Jose Calderon.

The Raptors finally handed over the starting job to Calderon and traded away T.J. Ford, but it hasn’t worked out as well as hoped.

Williams played well with the Cavaliers from time to time but was inconsistent, especially in the playoffs.

The Cavaliers are busy overhauling their roster to try and retain LeBron James and build a championship team around him.

Bosh has face fracture

Toronto Raptors star forward Chris Bosh suffered a fracture of his face and could miss the team’s stretch run.

Bosh injured his face in a collision with Antawn Jamison in the team’s loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He was then taken from the floor and rushed to the hospital to undergo tests and further examination.

The Raptors are barely holding on to the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, so the injury couldn’t come at a worse time.

Someone is going to have to step up big time in Bosh’s absence, however long that may end up being.

Raptors Abused by Hawks, Bosh Stifled, 146-115

Chris Bosh was held to his lowest point total since November 2007 on Wednesday night, as the Atlanta Hawks turned a game against the Raptors into a laugher with a 146-115 victory.

Bosh scored a season-low two points in 16 minutes of play, spending a good bit of the first half on the bench in foul trouble, and nearly all the second half on the bench with the game completely out of reach for the Raptors.

The loss was Toronto’s fifth straight.

The Hawks, who had been going through their own struggles lately with losses to Atlanta and Detroit, brought their explosive offense back with one fell swoop, abusing Toronto’s defense all night. The Raptors rank next-to-last defensively in the NBA, allowing 109.1 points per game.

“We didn’t magically appear last on the charts defensively,” Bosh said, adding the team’s “defensive effort hasn’t been there for a while. … I mean, tonight was just a total embarrassment.”

“We’ve got to care about it. That’s what it comes down to. Have some pride. Without that pride teams just score at will, like they did tonight.”

Toronto coach Jay Triano had a different take on the game.

“We were simply outclassed,” said Triano. “They just destroyed us.”

Raptors too much for depleted Pistons

The Toronto Raptors squandered almost all of a 14-point third-quarter lead, but hung on to defeat the visiting Detroit Pistons 110-99 on Wednesday night.

Toronto’s frontcourt trio of Chris Bosh, Andrea Bargnani, and new addition Hedo Turkoglu proved to be too much for Detroit. Bargnani recorded his first double-double of the year with 22 points and 12 boards, Bosh led the team with 25 points, and Turkoglu added 16 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

The Pistons were missing starters Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince, who sat out due to injuries. Detroit still found a way to score, thanks to a game-high 30 points from Ben Gordon and 16 off the bench from Will Bynum. But the Pistons had no answers defensively for the Raptors, who became the first team to reach the 100-point plateau against them this year.

Raptors Thumped By Yao-less Rockets

Toronto may be nearly 1,300 miles away from Houston, but on Thursday night, the Rockets made the Air Canada Centre home.

The Rockets abused the hapless Raptors, 124-112, in a game that got blown open in the second half.

Once again, the Raptors’ frontcourt put in the work, with F/C Andrea Bargnani scoring 16 points and All-Star forward Chris Bosh chipping in 13. The Raps lost their second game in two days, as they fell to the Celtics 106-90 on Wednesday in Hartford.

“We have to get back to the drawing board a little bit,” Bosh said. “It wasn’t our best output and we’re going to have to play a lot better on defense if we want to win a lot of basketball games.

There can’t be any slippage. Some nights your shots are going to be off but you can always move your feet and be in the right spot.”
Toronto shot a paltry 2-for-13 from downtown. Rookie DeMar DeRozan continued his streak of valuable contributions, adding 11 points along with Sonny Weems, while F Amir Johnson had 10 points and seven boards.

Hedo Turkoglu, the Raptors prize offseason acquisition, scored nine points in 22 minutes of play, then spent the rest of the time stretching in the locker room. Raptors forward Reggie Evans, who sprained his foot against the Celtics on Wednesday, will miss the rest of the preseason but hopes to return for the Raps’ regular season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Oct. 28.

Raptors Torched by Celtics’ Big Three

With Chris Bosh back in the lineup, the Raptors’ preseason had started to pick up momentum in their past two games. That was before they played Boston.

In a game at the XL Center in Hartford (where Boston’s SG Ray Allen played for UConn in college), the Raptors had no match for Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett as they fell to the Celtics, 106-90.

Bosh did his part, scoring 21 for the Raptors. Forward Hedo Turkoglu returned to the lineup after resting for most of the preseason, scoring six points in 22 minutes. PG Jose Calderon chipped in 12 points for the raptors, while the Raps’ draft pick DeMar DeRozan added 10.

Bosh battled with the referees in the third quarter, first laying into referee Tre Maddox after he didn’t call a foul on a missed reverse layup by Bosh, later speaking with referee Jaimie Morales after picking up his fourth and fifth fouls in all of 10 seconds.

“It was for a moving screen,” Bosh said. “I told them I have to actually move into somebody to get a moving screen. You know, it is what it is. … It’s preseason, it’s practice for everybody.”

Bosh wasn’t the only one who had trouble with the referees. F/C Andrea Bargnani was assessed a technical in the second quarter for arguing with the referees.

“I’m not getting into the referee’s performance,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. “They’re doing the best that they can do in a really, really difficult circumstance. It’s not like we’re going to change as coaches. We’re nuts. We’re going to complain and do all that stuff, and we don’t care who it is out there. We’re still going to do that.”
